Any business can claim to be carbon neutral, but not all claims are equal, nor do they represent a genuine commitment to environ-mental protection. PAS 2060 has been designed to allow business to make credible claims around carbon neutrality, and to demonstrate they have taken a structured and transparent approach to doing so.
The standard required businesses to use a credible quantification methodology (i.e. ISO 14064!), demonstrate emission reductions, and to only purchase the highest quality offset credits.
These offsets must meet a certain criterion to be deemed eligible. Offsetting must also be accompanied by a Carbon Reduction Plan to demonstrate you are actively managing your emissions to achieve reductions.
Once a declaration of achievement in accordance with the requirements of the standard have been issued, internal and external communication of success can begin which can be a tool to strengthen relationships with stakeholders.
