Getting Started on Your Carbon Journey Guide

A comprehensive step-by-step guide to help you plan and achieve Carbon Neutrality

WHAT IS THE PAS 2060 STANDARD?

We understand that any business can claim to be carbon neutral, but the credibility lies in the commitment to genuine environmental protection. PAS 2060 certification ensures businesses make credible claims about carbon neutrality, showcasing a structured and transparent approach to environmental responsibility.

STANDARD FOR CARBON NEUTRALITY

The standard requires businesses to use a credible methodology for quantification (such as ISO 14064-1), demonstrate emission reductions, and to only purchase the highest quality offset credits.

These offsets must meet a certain criterion to be deemed eligible. Offsetting must also be accompanied by a Carbon Reduction Plan to demonstrate you are actively managing your emissions to achieve reductions. At Carbonology®, this is achieved by using the PPN 06/21 format, traditionally used for public sector tendering.

Once a declaration of achievement by the requirements of the standard has been issued, internal and external communication of success can begin which can be a tool to strengthen relationships with stakeholders.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CARBON NEUTRALITY?

benefit a

Demonstrate to stakeholders that you have achieved carbon neutrality in a credible and transparent way

benefit b

Carbon emission calculations completed in alignment with ISO 14064-1

Benefits

Guidance to ensure you achieve carbon neutrality with only the highest quality offset project(s) and avoid inadvertent greenwashing

sustainable

Mitigate the impacts of climate change and demonstrate leadership in environmental sustainability

HOW CAN CARBONOLOGY® HELP?

Our team work with you to demonstrate your commitment to carbon neutrality in alignment with the world’s leading carbon neutrality standard to boost your sustainability credentials and put you on the path for achieving Net Zero by 2050.

This involves quantifying emissions in line with ISO 14064-1 . All details of your carbon neutrality are contained within a Qualifying Explanatory Statement (QES) which will also act as your integrated ISO 14064-1 GHG Report to reduce the number of documents to manage.

As with an ISO 14064-1 project, we will also provide you with a bespoke Emissions Monitoring System to simplify your carbon reporting for up to 10 years if desired.

As well as details on your emission quantification, the QES will transparently outline how you have achieved carbon neutrality via offsetting and how you plan to reduce emissions over time. It is our role here to guide you towards credible schemes that meet the requirements of PAS 2060.

A PAS 2060 project will cover Steps 1- 7 of our Carbonology® methodology; define, quantify, commit, reduce, re-quantify (2nd reporting period), offset and declare.

DO CARBONOLOGY® PROVIDE PAS 2060 TRAINING?

As an alternative to our traditional consultancy model, we have launched the Carbonology® Hub; the DIY version to PAS 2060 certification. Our training platform allows your organisation to both learn about and implement the Standard so that you can declare compliance with PAS 2060.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT PAS 2060 CERTIFICATION

PAS 2060 Certification (also known as PAS 2060 or carbon neutrality Verification) is a globally recognised standard for carbon neutrality. It provides a framework for organisations to measure, reduce, and offset their greenhouse gas emissions in order to achieve a carbon neutral status.

To become PAS 2060 certified, your organisation will need to calculate its carbon footprint, implement strategies to reduce emissions, and then offset any remaining emissions through the purchase of carbon credits or investments in renewable energy projects. Finally, an independent third-party auditor will verify your organisation’s emissions data and practices before granting certification.

PAS 2060 Certification is important because it demonstrates that your organisation is committed to reducing its environmental impact and taking action on climate change. It can help improve your company’s reputation, attract eco-conscious customers, and contribute to a more sustainable future for the planet.

PAS 2060 Certification is valid for three years, after which organisations must undergo a re-certification process to ensure they are still meeting the standard’s requirements. This process involves updating carbon footprint data, demonstrating continued emissions reductions, and offsetting any remaining emissions.

Yes, small businesses can achieve PAS 2060 Certification by implementing sustainable practices, measuring their carbon footprint, and taking steps to reduce emissions. There are resources available to help small businesses navigate the certification process and make meaningful contributions to combating climate change.
